Gloom
The room was quiet; the only sound was the whizzing of the computer fan. She sat
by it, gazing blankly into space. The shrill ring of the telephone interrupted
her gloomy reverie. She stared at it intently as the ringing continued, ignored,
until the machine picked up. The shadows lengthened, stretching across the
floor; Darkness slowly flooded the room until it was impossible to see anything
but the swirling silver stars on the computer screen, and her shadowed,
tear-stricken face.
